It's Here! Nicole Cheri', our new handmade in house designer line!

We at Buckingham Jewelers are proud to announce our brand new, handmade designer line.  It was made by my lovely and talented wife and it's called "Nicole Cheri'".  Each piece is hand crafted in sterling silver and then finished with a genuine gemstone.  We use amethyst, pearl, lemon quartz and can create a piece using your favorite gemstone too!  Just ask us.

Once she has made each individual piece, she engraves the inside and then initials the outside.  The finishing touch is a single genuine diamond set in each shank.  These sets can also be created in yellow or white gold as well.  Tell us your preference, and we will make it to suit you.

These one of a kind pieces are only available at Buckingham Jewelers, so come by and see the selection soon.  You can also look at all her selections at our here, in our gallery

Rubies.....July's Amazing Birthstone

Rubies are the birthstone for July, and what a stunner they are.  Hailing from the corundum family of gemstones, it is a cousin to the sapphire.  Heavy doses of the element Chromium cause the deep red color of this beautiful gem.  Rubies can come in many different hues of the color red, but the deep red color known as "pigeon blood red" is the most expensive and best known.  Rubies without inclusions or internal blemishes also command extremely high prices.  Because of their rarity, a large market in lab created rubies has become more prevalent in recent years.  There is a misconception that these are not "real" rubies.  They in fact share the exact same crystalline properties as real rubies, and because the environment in which they are produced is controlled, they tend to have far less inclusions than naturally mined rubies (and are less expensive).

Here at Buckingham Jewelers, we keep a few items in stock with ruby accents, but what is a great idea for those looking for a gift for the ruby lover is a custom made piece using rubies. Our master jeweler can take your ideas and turn them into singular creations that will never be recreated.  These one of a kind custom pieces can be created with natural or lab created rubies, and whilst they do cost a little more because of the craftsmanship involved, they are well worth it.

In Asia, rubies are sometimes laid in the foundations of new buildings for luck and good fortune.  If you would like to lay a lucky foundation for someone using rubies, come see us or call for an appointment.  We can create something amazing, and using the "king of gems" we will make you look like royalty.

Updating Appraisals is SO important!

Many people ask if we do appraisals on jewelry here at Buckingham Jewelers.  The answer is "Yes" but more important than if we do is how often we do.  You see, gold and platinum and even silver to a lesser extent are the victims of extremely volatile markets right now.  That means that the appraisal on your gold ring that is 5 years old is probably not going to cover the cost of replacing it if something should happen to it.  We recommend getting new appraisals every 2-3 years right now, just to make sure you are covered.  Your insurance agent is only going to reimburse you the amount he has listed on his most recent filed appraisal.  It might not be enough.

And while we are on the subject of insurance, please make sure that your jewelry in listed on a separate jewelry rider with your insurance agent.  Homeowners insurance policies often only cover $2500 or so of jewelry if lost or stolen.  Making sure you have a separate rider with your jewelry properly covered will result in greater peace of mind should the unthinkable happen.  We recommend Jewelers Mutual Insurance for your jewelry coverage.  They are an amazing company, both affordable and incredibly reliable.  But no matter who you use, make sure your appraisals are up to date, and your insured properly.

We are happy to help you with your appraisals here at Buckingham Jewelers.  Drop us a line and find out how we can help you keep your precious heirlooms safe.  You'll be glad you did!

Custom creations are no problem

A lot of the time here at Buckingham Jewelers, clients ask us to assist them with a custom creation that they can't simply buy "off the shelf".  Here is a great example.  Our client had bought this engagement ring from another jeweler some time ago and had not bought a matching band to go with it.  As you can see, this type of ring requires a special band (called a shadow band) that mimics the exaggerated curves of the ring.  He asked us to create a band that would fit the ring perfectly. As you can see from the image on the right we were able to engineer a perfect match to the ring in question.  This type of work requires a high degree of skill on the part of the jeweler.  This is exactly the kind of craftsmanship you can expect every time from Buckingham Jewelers.  Take a look at other examples of our custom work here.  We will be posting them from time to time on our blog.
